As an all-around roofer, you'll learn a true craft from an experienced thatcher. You'll work in dry weather on the most beautiful thatched roofs in Friesland. The company has been active for almost 100 years and is located in Makkum. We use the best materials and the most modern tools. Together with the owner, colleagues, and several freelancers, you'll have plenty of freedom and a friendly atmosphere. The main activity is installing a good thatched roof. You'll also perform thatched roof maintenance, such as repairs, renovations, cleaning, and algae/moss control. During the winter months, you'll also help harvest the thatch. If the weather isn't suitable for roof work, we'll tie the thatch we cut during the winter. This is also done with a modern machine. This gives you the opportunity to experience the process from start to finish. In addition, farmhouse roofs are regularly renovated and insulated with thatch using traditional methods. You'll work alongside an experienced thatcher who will teach you the trade. Roofing is a unique profession, a craft in itself. The owners themselves call it a lifestyle. Assessing the quality, sorting the thatch, and processing the product requires extensive experience, expertise, and professional knowledge.
